Houston Traffic: I-69 Southwest Freeway at I-610 West Loop to be closed in both directions starting Friday at 9 p.m.!

Houston, Texas (KTRK) – be ready! Traffic headaches in the Galleria area will continue this weekend.

Just like last weekend, the I-69 Southwest Freeway at the I-610 West Loop will be closed in both directions.

Closing begins at 8pm on Friday and runs until 5am on Monday.

Houston Metro said the closure also includes express lanes for vehicles that take up a lot of space.

There are detours that drivers can take, such as Richmond Street, but it would be best to avoid the area altogether throughout the weekend.

Closures are necessary as crews work to demolish more of the older remaining I-610 Loop bridge.

Construction, which began in 2017, is entering its fifth year.

The project is said to be adding capacity to the intersections by creating two ramps and adding shoulders to the West Loop Bridge.

Remodeling is estimated to be completed in 2024.
